One of our favourite spaces, however, is the living room on the ground floor, which opens on to a verdant garden with decking that calls for alfresco dining. Fancy a bite elsewhere? With Broadway Market – buzzing with street-food stalls on the weekend – on the doorstep, there are many delicious dining options nearby. The surrounding area of Hackney has lots more to offer young ones too, including the local lido and Victoria Park – which is only a short bike ride away.

Sitting on the edge of Queen’s Park, this charming two-bed is perfect for those looking to settle down in the city. Paying homage to its heritage as a former shop, the façade has been carefully retained and features original frosted windows that promise privacy when inside. A large living room provides ample space for fun and games, which can carry on into the open kitchen. Divided by glazed doors, this space can also be closed off when you want to cook in peace. Whipping up meals here is all the more enjoyable thanks to the striking forest-green cabinetry and generous skylights – especially with the pitter-patter of a rainy day. With four bedrooms across its three storeys, and two gardens, this home in Camberwell, south-east London, has plenty of room for growing households. Having been recently renovated, the ground floor features textured and tactile interiors, such as oak-plywood joinery and stone floors in the kitchen and dining area. The bedrooms on the first floor are lovely and light-filled, though our favourite space here might be the bathroom. Complete with a Japanese tub, we can’t think of a better place to escape the hum of family life. The cherry on top is the bright and airy loft conversion, which is currently in use as the main suite (though it could easily be transformed into a playroom or study). For even more space, head to Myatt’s Fields Park, which is only a short stroll away and not only offers green expanses, but a water play area for splashing around with kids too.

In need of extra growing room? This four-bedroom house in Kensal Green offers exactly that, with spacious interiors spread over three levels. Two large bedrooms and a third smaller one lie on the first floor, while the main suite sits at the top of the house and takes advantage of city views. Another one of the main reasons we love this home is there’s ample room for family gatherings. Guests will be cheerily greeted by a sunny-yellow gate and front door, while inside expansive skylights and wall-to-wall glazing result in light and airy living spaces to congregate in. The south-west-facing garden comes with a lawn, patio and a self-contained studio; while it’s currently in use as an office, we see its potential as a fine-art studio, playroom or even another social space.

Built to Passivhaus standards, this collection of five homes designed by Roberts and Treguer proposes an urban take on sustainable living. In the largest of them (pictured here), highlights include an uplifting terrazzo island that takes centre stage in the kitchen and light-filled dining area that looks out to a patio through expansive glass doors, which brings in a flourish of flora. In fact, there’s plenty of greenery to enjoy here. Not only does the home also overlook Deptford Park, but it has access to a shared garden, allotment and Dutch greenhouse at the rear.
